Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone sent congratulatory letters for the fashion show. You may have noticed the pink ribbons on the jerseys of NFL and MLB players lately. October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Angelina Jolie made public in May 2013 of the double mastectomy she went through to remove the high risk of developing breast cancer because of her genes and family history. This has certainly helped raise global awareness of breast cancer, and saved lives.

Chien-Chi Huang, director of AWFH, revealed that she herself was once a breast cancer patient. One of the major goals of SWFH is to promote the awareness of cancer prevention and early detection. She hoped the fashion show would help Asian women, including cancer patients, to be confident about themselves and strive for better health. Ms. Huang herself also stepped on the runway with big smiles on her face.

The fashion show was hosted by Janet Wu, anchor and reporter of WHDH TV station and Lola Tom of Multicultural Home Care. Carman Chan, board member of Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and Fanny Chan, president of Chinatown Lion Club attended the show. According to Chien-Chi Huang, Tufts Medical Center will hold free cancer screening for women on October 26 free cancer screening for women. For details, see: bostonese.com/?p=10273
