Eligibility: Anyone within the age limit (based on birth date as of October 4, 2014), regardless of nationality, who can be at the live audition in person.

Age groups: A: 9 and under, B: 10-13, C: 14-17, D: 18-22

Instruments: string, wind, plucked, and percussion.

Application:

  1. Application fee: $30. If a person participates in more than one instrument, the second, third instruments’ application fee will be $25 each. Students could enter as solo, duo, trio,.. or as a chamber group. For group entry, each and every one of the performer has to fill the application form and the group name. The average age of all participants in the group will be the group “age”. Application fee is $30 regardless whether it is a solo or a group.
  2. Send in the application form, application fee and the repertoire.
  3. Application deadline: September 28, 2014(Receiving date, not post mark date.)

Audition and Concert Dates:

1, Audition: Saturday, October 4, 2014 starts at 2 PM

2, Concert: Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 7:30 PM(Columbus Long Weekend).  Open to public. Admission is $10 at door. Each participant (regardless whether he/she will perform) receives 2 free tickets to the concert.

Audition and Repertoire: Same repertoire could be performed for both audition and concert.

 

  1. Live audition. Judging by age groups with mixed instruments. One self-selected piece from traditional Chinese classical repertoire. Maximum 5 minutes each person or group.
  2. The score will be the average from all judges.

Technique: 40%

Music interpretation and musicianship: 30%

Over-all performance and stage presentation: 30%

Concert:

Those who passed the audition on 10/4/2014 will be invited to a concert performance on 10/11/2014. The concert is open to the public. Admission is $10 per person at door. All participants (regardless he/she will perform) will receive two free tickets. An invited guest artist will give 10 min demonstration performance at the concert. :

The invited artist of 2014 is Mr. Kevin Zhen甄若茅, pipa soloist.

Certificate and Cash Award 

The concert performers will receive cash award and award certificate. The cash award is the same whether it is a solo or group ensemble. All members of the ensemble will receive his/her award certificates.

A: 9 and under       $80

B: 10-13                  $100

C: 14-17                  $150

D: 18-22:                     $200
