President Xi Begins First State Visit to the US in Seattle

SEATTLE, Sept. 22, 2015 — Chinese President Xi Jinping on put forward a four-point proposal on the development of a new model of major-country relationship between China and the United States today during his speech during the welcome banquet at Westin Seattle hotel in Seattle. A large number of people from the Chinese communities in Seattle turned out to welcome President Xi on the streets of Seattle.

China and the United States should read each other’s strategic intentions correctly, further advance win-win cooperation, manage their differences properly and effectively to seek more common ground, and boost people-to-people exchanges, Xi said during a his speech in Seattle to business leaders.


In his speech, Xi promised continued economical reforms and equal treatment of foreign companies. He mentioned that China’s 7% GDP growth rate is still one of the highest in the world. Xi thanked support from U.S. during WWII for the just cause of Chinese people. At end of his speech, President Xi quoted Dr. Kissinger and Martin Luther King Jr., and mentioned he paid tribute to Hemingway in his visits to Cuba. He ended his speech by saying:”Let’s work together to bring about an event better future for US China relations, and make an even bigger contribution to the happiness of our two peoples, and well-being of the people world over.”

Xi kicked off his first state visit to the United States Tuesday, a landmark trip aimed at building up trust and stepping up cooperation between the world’s two biggest economies. The state visit by President Xi also includes stops in Washington DC and New York City. Xi will deliver a speech at UN’s General Assembly on Sept. 27.
