Video Report: New England’s First Confucius Institute Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Boston, Oct. 20, 2016, — To celebrate its 10th Anniversary, University of Massachusetts Boston Confucius Institute held a celebration at Campus Center of UMass Boston on Oct. 11. About 200 teachers, students and distinguished guests attended this event, and enjoyed wonderful performances by Renming University of China (RUC) Student Art Troupe.

Dr. Keith Motley, Chancellor of UMass Boston, Dr. Wu Xiaoqiu, Vice President of RUC, and many other speakers praised University of Massachusetts Boston Confucius Institute for its countless achievements over the past ten years.

In his speech, Chancellor Motley thanked the cooperation from RUC for jointly establishing the first Confucius Institute in New England. He also praised Baifeng Sun, US director of the Boston Confucius Institute, Chunmei Fu, Chinese director of the Boston Confucius Institute, and Shuhong Wang, Chinese Language Program Coordinator, for their hard work that has made many programs of the Boston Confucius Institute great successes in the UMass Boston community.

University of Massachusetts Boston Confucius Institute was established in 2006 in partnership with RUC and its affiliated High School. Since 2009, RUC and UMass have had an ongoing student exchange program, with University of Massachusetts Boston Confucius Institute serving as intermediary.
