Pictures from 2013 GBCCA Chinese Music Ensembles Spring Concert

Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association (GBCCA) Chinese Music Ensembles annual concert titled Spring was held at Casey Theatre, Regis College in Weston, Mass. on May 12. More than 400 Chinese music lovers enjoyed an evening of beautiful traditional and innovative Chinese music by talented young students and their teachers.

The concert consisted of a few solo, small ensemble as well as joint ensembles pieces. In particular, the new percussion group, trained and coached by conductor Chi-Sun Chan, will had their Boston premier of the Jiangzhou drum music entitled “Rolling Walnuts”.

Renowned sheng soloist Ms. Chien-Na Cheng from Taiwan and guzheng soloist Ms. Shin-Yi Yang performed two concerto pieces accompanied by the GBCCA Ensemble. The title piece of the concert was a grand symphony of more than 10 Chinese traditional instruments and 40 players, conducted by Dr. Chi-Sun Chan.

“We started with only seven players in 1984 at MIT. We will be celebrating our 30-year anniversary next year,” said Tai-Chun Pan, director of Chinese Music Ensembles. He also thanked many volunteers whose hard work helped make the annual concert a success.


A graduation ceremony was held at the concert for five high-school seniors. They will bring their talents in traditional Chinese music to various colleges this Fall. The website of GBCCA Chinese Music Ensembles is: http://www.ChineseMusicEnsemble.com
