YES 8.0 and Marketing Workshop, A Busy Month at NECINA

Boston, October, 17, 2013, –On Saturday, October 19 (9AM-5PM), the kickoff session of New England Chinese Information and Networking Association (NECINA) Marketing Workshop will be held at Cambridge Innovation Center at One Broadway in Cambridge. A couple weeks earlier, the Youth Entrepreneurship Service (YES) 8.0 had kick off session at the same building, with over 30 students in attendance.

According to Delia Wu of NECINA, the goal of the Marketing Workshop is to help graduates and young professionals who are interested in learning marketing to get hands-on experience from real projects and marketing professionals. The workshop includes one kickoff session, six meetups and one final presentation, and focuses on several areas of marketing in business settings.

The kickoff morning session is a lecture taught by Jennifer Lawrence, founder of Cambridge Corporate Training, former Managing Director of Executive Education at Harvard Business School, and the afternoon session will be NECINA’s welcome session to the students who participate in the program.

YES 8.0: Turning Students into Entrepreneurs

Founded in 2005, YES (Youth Entrepreneurship Service) Program is a free program for high school students to develop entrepreneurship and leadership skills. During the 10-class program, students learn to work in teams, develop business ideas and participate in a business plan contest.

According to Tracy Huang, the location of this year’s YES classes changed from IBM Innovation Center in Waltham in previous years to Cambridge Innovation Center so that more students can get to class by public transportation.

In the kick off session, Lucio Campanelli was the guest speaker. Mr. Campanelli is founder and director of the Boston entrepreneurship centerthe, co-founder, CEO and Chief Designer of INPULSE, where he manages product development and business strategy working closely with the IT team at the intersection of open data, Knowledge management, and international development initiatives. His main focus is to create partner relationships with academic institutions and international organizations including Harvard Kennedy School, HBS, HGSE, MIT, and World Bank. Mr. Campanelli is the Founder and director at the Boston Entrepreneurship Center. He is also a founding member of the Hub Boston.

Mr. Campanelli holds an Architecture degree from the University of Rome, a degree in Information Science from the University of Wisconsin, a visiting student at MIT (Department of Architecture) and a certificate in cognitive science from the University of Quebec, UQAM.

The instructor of the kickoff session was Sergio Ferreira. Mr. Ferreira has run a small family concrete subcontractor business for over 20 years, making it one of the leading concrete companies in the New England Construction Industry. After going to a Startup Weekend Boston 2012, and winning the event with a solution to help all subcontractors in his industry. That event led him to organizing this event in Providence in order to give someone else the opportunity to do the same, start a company in 54 hours. Also recently he has helped organize more startup events in such as Angelhack, Hasbroathon, and Lean Startup Challange.

Recently, Mr. Ferreira become an adviser for a new non-profit entrepreneurial center launch in Providence called Hatch (hatchri.com) this center will help anyone who wants to start a business or is in a business get to the next level. He has a passion to help people in their entrepreneurial journey, and will do anything to help anyone who has the same passion, including YES 8.0 students.
