Today I’m celebrating my 29th birthday with family and friends. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to spend this year focusing on Boston, talking with residents, and working to make our city better for families in every neighborhood.

Last year on my birthday, I asked many of you to support one of my favorite organizations–Birthday Wishes–and this year, I’d like to keep the tradition. Birthday Wishes mobilizes grassroots volunteers to host birthday parties for homeless families in shelters, motels, and transitional housing. Last year, they helped over 18,000 homeless children celebrate birthdays, and they are active in 32 shelters in the city of Boston.

When my parents immigrated to the US, they couldn’t afford big birthday presents, but every year they made sure to have a little party with family and friends. Seeing all those grown-ups in birthday hats always made us kids feel loved and safe. Today, on my 29th birthday, I hope you’ll support an organization that helps Boston children in need feel celebrated, too.

Thousands of children in our city’s shelters don’t get to celebrate because of the cost of cake, balloons, and presents. On my birthday, I am asking that you consider helping a kid in need feel special on theirs. If you agree that every child deserves to be celebrated and feel special on their birthday, please consider making a donation to Birthday Wishes. Visit www.birthdaywishes.org to find out how you can support Birthday Wishes and the children they serve in our city.

Thank you for your support, and for the many ways you help make Boston a better place.
