Holiday Greetings from Boston Forward

Dear members and friends of Boston Forward,

As we celebrate the Lantern Festival and Valentine’s Day this Friday, I would like to wish you and your family good health and happiness in the Chinese New Year of the Horse. Hopefully, Boston Forward will achieve more in promoting equality and defending civil rights among underrepresented minorities this year with help and support from all of you.

At the New England Chinese Professionals Lunar New Year Gala, one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in this region, on Feb. 1, 2014, Boston Forward made debut appearance as a group. Not only Boston Forward won the support from various professional associations, there were also more than 20 professionals filling in the registration form to join us in the booth. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Pengcheng Zhu for providing the NeoBioPharma’s booth to Boston Forward during the community forum in the afternoon. At the evening banquet, Boston Forward was given the opportunity to introduce itself to hundreds of the guests.

In November 2013, protests erupted across the United States after pre-recorded genocidal comments against Chinese people were aired on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live show. Boston Forward was subsequently created by a group of activists. Under our effort, CNN, Boston Globe and other mainstream media outlets have reported the protests, and many elected officials have issued open letters to apply pressure to Disney and ABC network. ABC network stated intention to add more Asian American employees in a letter of apology, and has announced piloting of a TV show that would focus on Asian American families recently.

Regrettably, ABC network has not held anyone accountable for the outrageous incident on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Within just two months of the Jimmy Kimmel Live debacle, CBS’ hit TV show How I Met Your Mother and Spanish television channel 5 aired segments that vilified Chinese and Asian people. Producers of these two TV programs had to make public apologies due to strong criticism and outrage from the public. Boston Forward still has a long way to go!

Boston Forward will hold a gathering in the near future. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Specific time and location will be announced soon.

Let us work together and move Boston Forward!
