The Chinatown/South End community has called on new developments to provide jobs to community members and meet hiring goals for residents, people of color and women. Towards this aim, Whole Foods signed a first source hiring agreement with Chinatown/South End community organizations at beginning of this year. The agreement called for early notification of job openings to community groups, bilingual interviews, and reporting on hiring outcomes for their new store at Ink Block, the former site of the Boston Herald building.
