As of August 21, Chinese media reported 116 confirmed deaths, including at least 40 firefighters. Sixty people, mostly firefighters, remain missing.

Chinese American Equalization Association (HQH) and other organizations attended the donation ceremony. HQH representative Ms. Julia Liu said: “There are students to attending the donation ceremony getting $65 parking ticket. But this wouldn’t hold back people’s determination for attending this event and pay tribute to the heroic firefighters.”

Ms. Hong Li, president of Beijing Association USA, stated: “The overseas Chinese are deeply touched by the recent explosions in Tianjin. On the one hand, we are strongly condemning the root cause of the accident; on the other hand, we mourn for the loss of innocent lives, including some of the front-line firefighters who lost their young valuable lives for the rescue works. There are many lessons learned and experience gathered, but an enormous price has been paid.”

Beijing Association USA has carried forward the good tradition of service and donation. On the day after the explosions, donation requests went out via e-mail and Wechat, a popular social mobile app. In just a few hours, people responded quickly to the request.
