四十年哈佛老店关门 中餐行业面临挑战

【本报记者李强波士顿波士顿】12月1日中午,经常到位于哈佛广场的燕京中餐馆吃午餐的哈佛大学高青老师发现这家经营了40多年的中餐馆突然关门了。这家1975年11月份开张的中餐馆,过去40年来服务哈佛师生,口碑非常不错。

据知情人士透露,燕京中餐馆的李老板在租约到期之后,面对大幅上涨的租金,选择了退休。而业主预计将把这个地点非常好的铺面租给付得起昂贵租金的星巴克或其他连锁咖啡屋或餐厅。

在哈佛大学图书馆工作了二十多年的高青老师表示,虽说是天下没有不散的筵席,哈佛广场没有不关的餐馆,但她还是很震惊。“每天早上出了哈佛广场地铁站去上班,途径燕京餐馆,我总是习惯性地看一眼燕京餐馆,我喜欢它门口的那副对联,我喜欢那挂在大门外的“燕京”的招牌,我看着燕京餐馆玻璃窗上贴着的优惠午餐(Lunch Special)从$4.99慢慢涨到$5.99,$6.99,$7.95。”

剑桥中国文化中心董事长纪虎民先生得知这个消息之后也表示非常惋惜,他说:“这是一个许多中国留学人员难以忘怀的地方。记得当时的餐馆老板是中国滇军名将龙云的儿子。当80年代我们第一波大陆留学人员来到波士顿,大多是在那里第一次吃到中国饭,第一次会见自己的朋友。那时没有文化中心,没有中文学校,燕京餐馆似乎是中国人的一个家。”

燕京中餐馆这家四十年老店的关门的确令人惋惜,但这并不是个别现象。近年来,波士顿和剑桥地区的房价和租金不断攀升,商业铺面的租金也是水涨船高。不断上涨的租金对于利润率不高的中餐行业构成严重挑战。另外,许多中餐馆的子女知道经营中餐馆的辛苦,而不愿意接父母的班,而选择律师、医生、工程师等白领工作,让许多家庭式的中餐馆后继无人。
