Diana Hwang, Candidate for State Senate Hits the Airwaves

Boston, April 5, 2016, — In a move rarely seen in State Senate races, candidate Diana Hwang started airing a television commercial in the hotly contested race to replace Anthony Petruccelli who resigned earlier this year. The ad, which depicts Diana as a voice for seniors, workers and women, features Diana using the voice of a male retiree, a construction worker and an older woman working out. The message clearly conveyed is that whoever you are in the district, Diana will be a voice for you and your concerns.

“We are doing all we can to reach voters,” Hwang said. “We’ve knocked on thousands of doors, made tens of thousands of phone calls, and visited hundreds of community events. This TV ad is one more way to introduce myself, and my record of making sure everyone has a voice in government. Too often it feels like power insiders aren’t listening to us and are making decisions that impact us behind closed doors. In the State Senate, I’ll stand up for seniors, women, working families and the next generation – all of whom need a voice in the corridors of power.”

The 30-second spot, created by strategic and media consultant Cayce McCabe, will air throughout the district over the next week. It is intended to grab peoples’ attention and distinguish Hwang, a new-comer, in a crowded field. Hwang recently led this field in fundraising – raising more than $170,000 in three months. The primary election takes place next Tuesday, April 12th.

The daughter of immigrants, Diana Hwang founded a successful organization that mentors young women to be the next generation of community leaders. She previously served as a legislative aide in the State House and a Chief of Staff in the Boston City Council. Diana serves as Board member of the UMass Center for Women in Politics, served as co-chair of the Boston Women’s Fund and is a founding member of Mayor Walsh’s Women’s Commission. Diana currently lives in East Boston and previously lived in Revere.
