First “China Day” Celebrated in MA State House

Boston, Oct. 8, 2016, — The Chinese Consulate-general in New York and the Massachusetts House of Representatives celebrated a “China Day” on Thursday, Oct, 7, at the Great Hall in the State House on Beacon Hill.

The event marks 37 years of friendship and cooperation between China and Massachusetts. About 300 government officials and representatives from local Chinese communities attended this event. Traditional Chinese music by renowned guzheng artist Hui Weng and her students from NEC was played during cultural performance portion of the celebration.

During the two-hour event, Consul-general Zhang Qiyue also honored local organizations and institutions contributing to the China-U.S. cultural exchange. The following is a video report of the event.

“Wilson Lee and I are honored to be invited to China Day: 37 Years of Friendship and Cooperation. Chung Wah Academy of New England is one of the organizations that received the Friendship Award,” wrote Esther Lee on Facebook.

The other Friendship Award awardees include Chinese Progressive Association, Cambridge Center for Chinese Culture, University of Massachusetts Boston Confucius Institute, Boston Dragon Boat Festival and Boston Chinese Musicians Association. The following are more pictures from this event.
