MA Honors 430th Anniversary of Asian Immigration / 麻州慶祝亞裔移民美國430週年



A Proclamation

Whereas, Asian Americans are Americans of Asian decent who originated from Asian countries with their unique cultural heritage and immigration history; and

Whereas, The earliest known arrival of Asian American in the territories that would become the United States is Filipinos who have arrived in Morro Bay, California in 1587, initiating the first chapter of Asian American immigration to America; and

Whereas, the year of 2017 marks an important milestone in the history of Asian Americans, celebrating the 430th anniversary of Asian Americans in the United States; and

Whereas, Asian Americans have settled and thrived in the United States through strong family tires, community support, and hard work. Asian Americans are becoming the highest-income, best-educated and fast-growing minority group in our nation and their stories and experiences are deeply interwoven into our history and character; and

Whereas, The influence of Asian Americans are witnessed in every aspect of American Life, including entrepreneurship, scientific research, medical services, performing arts, and education; and

Whereas, Asian Americans have made significant contributions to our nation’s economy, culture, education, and military strength; and

Whereas, The Asian American Association of Boston organizes the annual Asian American Day celebraton on the second Saturday in September of each year, bringing together hundreds of volunteers, performers, vendors, and organizations, and millions of visitors,

Now, Therefore, I, Charles D. Baker, Governor of Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim September 9, 2017, to be

Asian American Day

And urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this Nine Day of September, in the year two thousand and seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and forty-first.
