Boston Chinese Catholic Community Celebrates August Moon Festival

By Peter Chan, Boston Chinese Catholic Community(BCCC)

On Sunday, August 12, 2018, the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time was joyfully celebrated at St. James the Greater Church in Boston Chinatown. In the Lower Church the 8:00 AM Mass in English was presided by Fr. Joseph Baggetta.

Our Parochial Vicar Fr. Joseph Zhang returned after month long away for study towards Licentiate of Sacred Theology in Detroit. He presided in the Upper Church the 10 a.m. Mass in Chinese and delivered the homily in Mandarin. It was orally translated into Cantonese and a copy in Chinese is attached.

As on the same day Boston’s Chinatown held its 49th annual August Moon Festival, St. James/Boston Chinese Catholic Community staffed a booth from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Governor Charlie Baker had a nice chat with a child on the streets of Chinatown. Director-General Douglas Yu-Tien Hsu of The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Boston also stopped by to send August Moon Festival greetings to Boston Chinese Catholic Community.

Our August Moon Festival (AMF) committee co-chaired by Mary Young, Joseph Leung & Mei Fung Chan would like to express our collective & deepest appreciation for all the support from our parishioners. With Christ working through us to make the AMF a success. Despite cloudy weather, the Holy Spirit brought us the crowd, Our Blessed Mother kept the rain away for the most part, and you brought us the smiles of encouragement to carry on with our evangelization work.

You are all welcomed to join us for liturgy and other programs at St. James. To learn more see attached bilingual bulletin or visit our homepage at: https://www.bcccstjames.org.
