Boston, Dec. 22, 2014, — Asian Women for Health (AWH) will convene the TransformASIANS conference in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) on Sat., Jan 10 from 8:30am to 3:30pm at 1199 SEIU in Dorchester.
According to research data, 10% of Asian Americans in the US are living with this disease, mostly seniors with Type 2 Diabetes (South Asians, Chinese and Filipinos are particularly impacted by this disease – see attached documents for more info). Statistically, Asian women in Massachusetts are twice as likely as other women to develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy and we would like to raise awareness about this emerging health concern through outreach and education.
Dr. George King, Director of AADI at the Joslin Diabetes Center, is invited as the Plenary speaker for the event. In addition, the event will feature a community as well as providers panel, cooking demo, Bollywood Dancercise, and interactive workshops pack with useful tips and information on preventing and controlling Diabetes, with a resource fair runs concurrently at the conference.Students/Seniors/Volunteers can attend the event for free but registration is required at http://2015Diabetes.eventbrite.com
Please feel free to contact AWH with any questions at [email protected]
