The City of Malden Removal of Snow and Ice from Sidewalks Ordinance requires every home and business owner to remove snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property. To help residents who need assistance in complying with this Ordinance, the City is working to compile a list of Service Providers who will perform snow and ice removal services for a reasonable fee.
Upon request, the Service Provider List will be provided to residents who need assistance in complying with the City’s Ordinance. Residents and service providers will make their own arrangements relative to scope of work, time of performance, fees and payments.
Residents who would like to become a Service Provider are asked to submit their name, address, telephone number, email address and other pertinent information to Sheila L. Fermano, City Council Clerk of Committees, at 781-397-7130 or via email at [email protected] as soon as possible. Service Providers are required by the City to be CORI approved.
The City of Malden is requesting that residents work with their neighbors to clear storm drains in front of their property and along their roadway.
There is a high possibility of Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast with heavy rains and high winds. There are over 2,835 storm drains/catch-basins in the City of Malden. The DPW has had multiple crews out clearing the storm drains on a daily basis. However, the trees have been dropping leaves quickly which makes it impossible to clear all drains by Sunday evening.
The Mayor is asking that residents check the storm drains, rake leaves away from the drain (not into the drain), and dispose of the leaves and debris in yard waste bins or brown paper leaf bags. Do not remove the storm grates.
The DPW would like to remind residents that street sweepers cannot pick up large piles of leaves and residents should not rake or blow leaves from their property into the street.
