The Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians (MONB) is looking for a full-time, one-year project coordinator to assist with the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of US citizens or Legal Permanent Residents) Outreach Initiative.

Position Title: Project Coordinator

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):
Assist in demonstrating that city government is a safe, trustworthy and welcoming place for immigrant residents by convening immigrant communities, non-profit organizations and immigration legal services to ensure that immigrant residents are provided with accurate and appropriate information about DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of US citizens or Legal Permanent Residents) including eligibility requirements, assistance with applications (when available) and to warn about the unauthorized practice of law.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Community Coordination
• Develop strong relationships with community partners to build a coalition to work together on outreach and engagement of immigrant communities.
• Strategically utilize existing community resources and organizations that are trusted by undocumented immigrant communities to identify and serve potential DACA applicants and harder to reach DAPA qualified individuals.
• Organize with community partners to put together large educational events including expanded DACA and DAPA screening and DACA 2012 application assistance.
• Expand the outreach and organizing capacity of community partners through leadership development and advocacy.
• Coordinate and direct partners to take on key organizing and outreach roles in preparation for larger screening, educational and application events.
• Identify new organizations to expand the network of support for potentially eligible applicants, to ensure that underrepresented communities are supported to maximize the field of entities working on DAPA and DACA in Boston
• Recruit, coordinate and oversee volunteers assisting with legal trainings.

Outreach
• Coordinate and conduct culturally-effective, multi-lingual, multi-ethnic outreach to diverse immigrant communities.
• Organize and present educational forums about DACA and DAPA and the unauthorized practice of law.
• Facilitate quarterly community trainings, Know Your Rights information sessions, and discussion of broader immigration reform.
• Organize interviews and press events with ethnic media to assist in community outreach and education.

Development of Materials
• Develop useful outreach materials to promote events. Develop materials together with community partners to warn about the unauthorized practice of law and to include certified and reliable legal resources.
• Organize and create materials needed for large screening and application clinics.

Additional Duties
• Recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to assist with organizing the large clinics.
• Participating in normal office responsibilities.
• Other assigned tasks as necessary.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Advanced computer skills
• Ability to take initiative
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to work with diverse people and in a multicultural environment.
• 2-3 years experience in developing and implementing trainings with immigrant communities
• 2-3 years experience in organizing, facilitating and motivating groups
• Community organizing experience
• Familiarity with human services
• Familiarity with ethnic media
• Fluency in Spanish required, Portuguese or Haitian Creole preferred
• BA required
