One-Month Countdown to The 3rd N. A. Chinese Directors Short Film Tour!

One last month to submit your short films to The 3rd North America Chinese Directors Short Film Tour! Initiated by EnMaze Pictures and co-presented by Blueberry Pictures, North America Chinese Directors Short Film Tour is the platform for overseas Chinese film students to begin their career in the flourishing film industries across the Pacific. This year’s Short Film Tour is estimated to attract over 2000 audiences with a combination of events, including screenings, Q&A sessions, press conferences and interaction sessions with filmmakers and industry specialists in major cities in the US and China.

The 3rd Short Film Tour will focus on broadening, diversifying, and expanding the platform to provide more opportunities for filmmakers. Short Film Tour will premiere at CAA’s headquarter in Los Angeles and tour in major US and Chinese cities, providing marketing opportunities, including coverage by US mainstream media, press conferences, industry fairs, and VC conferences. This year, the Tour will also establish strategic partnership with top platforms and streaming sites to provide a professional development hub for filmmakers.

The Story Behind Your Short Film Tour

Five years ago, being Chinese film students in the US themselves, founders of EnMaze Pictures realized the enormous potential of a community and the common dilemma they’re facing: in the past ten years, film schools in North America that have trained the backbones of today’s Hollywood also cultivated a generation of Chinese student equipped with strong professional skills. However, unlike their fellow American schoolmates who often find paths in Hollywood industry, Chinese film student often have difficulty beginning their career in the film due to their in-between status as an oversea student away from home. This distance limits the change of young filmmakers to exhibit their talents and it is also a great loss for Chinese film industry that is in need of talents who can create universal contents.

Based on this vision, EnMaze Pictures founded North America Chinese Directors Short Film Tour in 2014 with the goal to scout talented filmmakers and to support them with a warm community. The Tour has travelled far and beyond, helping filmmakers start new adventures in LA, Chicago, NY, Boston, San Francisco, DC, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing and Xi’an. Through various events in major US and Chinese cities, Short Film Tour has been supporting young filmmakers to jumpstart their careers.

The first two Tours received over 600 submissions with a stellar jury team consisting of scholars and industry experts, including Dai Jinhua, Peggy Chiao, Terence Chang Chia-Chen, Wuershan, Mabel Cheung, Jeffrey Sharp, Hardy Justice, etc.

Why We All Lose With the Model Minority Myth

By Suzanne Lee and Lydia Lowe

Much is being made of a lawsuit alleging discrimination against Asian American applicants to Harvard University in order to reinforce the narrative that race should no longer be a factor in the admissions process. Plaintiffs allege that Asian American applicants with top scores for academics, test results and extracurricular activities were nonetheless admitted at lower levels than applicants of other races, when factors such as “personality” were taken into consideration. The suit is led by Students for Fair Admissions, a conservative organization that has opposed affirmative action programs on behalf of white applicants in the past.
