Members of Team USA to be Featured at Optima Synchro Show on March 22

Boston, March 19, 2014, — Optima Synchro will host an annual Synchro Show on this Saturday, March 22. Several members of the current and past US National Team: coach Svetlana Malinovskaya, Lindi Schroeder, Caitlin Klauer, Reverie Nedde and Helen Zhou, will be featured at this year’s show. Whiling naming coach Svetlana Malinovskaya to the Assistant Coach for the the 13-15 National Team, USA Synchro stated: “The 13-15 National Squad will go through a second selection trial in May to reduce the team to up to 12 swimmers. The team will compete at the Comen Cup July 7-14 in Europe and at the UANA Championships, Aug. 12-17, in Riverside, Calif..”

Lindi ranked 1st in 13-15 US Team Squad, and is one of the top synchronized swimmer in the country now. She placed 2nd in Solo in National Age Group Championship July 2013. Lindi was named to the 13-15 National Team at the National Team Trials in February, 2014.

Helen made to the 12 and under National Team. She has been practicing synchronized swimming for four years. In June 2013, she made to the East Zone All Star team, and her team won the first place in East Zone Championship competition. Helen also loves to play violin, and has played with Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and Nashoba Youth Orchestras (NYO).

Besides various activities, Helen excels academically in school. She is recipient of President’s Academic Excellence award, and the 2012 and 2014 school GeoBee. Helen was awarded with AMC 8 “honor roll”. Helen loves reading, traveling and playing games.

The show also features February SwimOutlet.com Swimmer of the Month: 14-year-old Monica Alvarado of Methuen, Mass.. Alvarado is a member of Optima Synchro and has eight years of experience in the sport.

She was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic autoimmune disorder, called Wegeners Syndrome, that has prevented her from swimming. However, her diagnosis hasn’t stopped her from contributing to her team’s success. As she recovers from her illness, she continues to attend practices, meets and other events, and provides figure coaching and encouragement to younger swimmers. Her leadership, great attitude and team spirit have made her a role model to her teammates.

In addition to participating in synchronized swimming, she is an A student at Central Catholic High School. She is a member of the school’s swim team. Additionally, she has volunteered for the Massachusetts Summer Special Olympics and attended bible and art camp.
