ESOL for Human Services Teacher/Counselor
Catholic Charities Yawkey, HMSC, located in Dorchester, is currently seeking a full time Teacher/Counselor.  The Teacher/Counselor will develop and teach advanced industry specific ESOL classes with an emphasis on individuals with disabilities.  The Teacher/Counselor will recruit, screen test, interview and place qualified students into ESOL for Human Services classes.   The Teacher/Counselor will draw on their ESOL teaching techniques and strategies, curriculum development history and/or their vocational ESOL experience to prepare students to succeed at human services interviews and find jobs at partner agencies and other human service agencies in greater Boston.  The Teacher/Counselor will supervise and team teach to focus on the development of student portfolios, computer skills, job interviews and post employment follow up.  BA in Education or related field.  Licensed ABE Teacher, MA in related filed, TESOL or Applied Linguistics preferred.  3 years experience as an advanced EOSL teacher with immigrants
and some experience with workplace education, creating and integrating industry specific content into the curriculum and counseling students. USCIS Revises Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9
Revisions include new user-friendly instructions for completing Form I-9

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today published a revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 for use. All employers are required to complete a Form I-9 for each employee hired in the United States.
Improvements to Form I-9 include new fields, reformatting to reduce errors, and clearer instructions to both employees and employers. The Department of Homeland Security has published a Notice in the Federal Register informing employers of the new Form I-9.
Effective 03/08/13:
• Employers should begin using the newly revised Form I-9 (Rev. 03/08/13)N for all new hires and reverifications.
• Employers may continue to use previously accepted revisions (Rev.02/02/09)N and (Rev. 08/07/09) until May 7, 2013.
• After May 7, 2013, employers must only use Form I-9 (Rev. 03/08/13)N.

Revisiones incluyen instrucciones más fáciles de entender para completar el Formulario  I-9
El Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS, por sus siglas en inglés)publicó hoy un Formulario de Verificación de Elegibilidad de Empleo I-9,  con nuevas revisiones.  Se requiere que los todos los empleadores completen un Formulario I-9 para cada empleado contratado en los Estados Unidos.
Las mejoras al Formulario I-9 incluyen nuevos encasillados, nuevos formatos para reducir errores e instrucciones más claras tanto para empleados como para empleadores.  El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional publicó una Notificación en el Registro Federal  informándoles a los empleadores acerca del Formulario I-9.
Efectivo el 8 de marzo de 2013:
• Empleadores deben comenzar a usar la nueva versión revisada del Formulario I-9 (Rev. 03/08/13)N para todas las nuevas confirmaciones y verificaciones de seguimiento.

Part Time Job Posting: Introduction to Banking Instructor

The Asian American Civic Association (AACA) provides limited English speaking and economically disadvantaged people with education, occupational training and social services enabling them to realize lasting economic self-sufficiency.

The Careers in Banking and Finance Training Program is a 13 week, full time training program to prepare immigrant and non-immigrant adults for entry level positions in the retail banking industry.

We are looking for an Instructor to teach Introduction to Banking Class to our Careers in Banking and Finance (CBF) training program.  The Instructor will be responsible for instructing the Introduction to Banking class for the CBF training program.  This course covers banking policies, regulations and procedures and cash handling methods.

Instructor Position is 12 hours per week which includes teaching time, preparation time and meeting time. (.3 FTE)

Position is available from July 2, 2013 – October 11, 2013 and October 28, 2013 – February 15, 2014. Class times are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-10:30 am.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructor
• Teach Introduction to banking class to immigrant and non-immigrant adult students. Topics include banking terminology, banking policies, procedures, regulations and cash handling methods.
• Teach from established curriculum, and evaluate & modify according to employer input, student needs and supervisor feedback
• Administer quizzes and final assessments
• Correct student work providing significant feedback
• Keep daily attendance records
• Actively participate in regular program meetings and work with team for effective program implementation
• Participate in program evaluation and efforts to develop, refine and improve the program

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Knowledge of and/or experience in the retail banking industry
• Demonstrated teaching experience
• Strong commitment to program philosophy of preparing students for employment success
• Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s preferred
• Native English fluency required

We are looking for an Instructor & Case Manager for the Careers in Banking and Finance training program.  The Instructor/Case Manager will be responsible for instructing the Business Communication class for the training program and for providing case management to students while enrolled in the program.

Please note:  Applicants may submit resumes for the Instructor/Case Manager combined position or for the Instructor position alone. We are not accepting resumes for the Case Manager position alone.  Please indicate in your cover letter which position you are would like to be considered for.

The Instructor Position is 17.5 hours per week which includes teaching time, preparation time and meeting time. (.5 FTE)

The Instructor/Case Manager combined position is 21 hours per week which includes teaching time, preparation time, case management and meeting time. (.6 FTE)

Both positions are available from July 2, 2013 – October 11, 2013 and
October 28, 2013 – February 15, 2014. Class time is Tuesday through Friday, 2:00 to 4:00 PM

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach English for the banking industry to immigrant adult students. Topics include banking terminology, customer service, cross sales, public speaking/presentation skills, American workplace culture, communication skills for the workplace.
• Teach from established curriculum, and evaluate & modify according to employer input, student needs and supervisor feedback
• Administer quizzes and final assessments
• Correct student work providing significant feedback
• Keep daily attendance records
• Participate in interviewing and selecting applicants for program admission
• Actively participate in regular program meetings and work with team for effective program implementation
• Participate in program evaluation and efforts to develop, refine and improve the program

Case Manager
• Provide case management to Careers in Banking and Finance students while enrolled in the program
• Address issues such as transportation, housing, child care, application to public benefits, family issues through intervention and referrals
• Develop individualized case management service plans for students and maintain up to date case notes on each student
• Participate in the interviewing and selecting of applicants for program admission
• Ensure client information & outcomes are recorded in AACA’s database and student files are up to date

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Demonstrated experience teaching immigrant adults
• Knowledge of retail banking and/or customer service preferred
• Strong commitment to program philosophy of preparing students for employment success
• Experience providing case management preferred (for case management position)
• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred
• Native English fluency required

Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center will be having a naturalization clinic next Saturday May 18th.  During the clinic, we educate Permanent Residents on the citizenship process, assist them in filling out the application including fee waiver assistance (if they are eligible), and refer them to free legal assistance.  We offer services to any potential applicant regardless of their country of origin and language spoken, however applicants must be able to speak basic English in order to pass the naturalization exam and interview.
