Boston, August 27, 2013 — Ms. Xiuli Shi and Mr. Lee Libbey from Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology (IMUST) in Baotou city, China presented Commissioner Ed Davis with a Thank-you letter signed by hundreds of students at Boston Police headquarters this morning. Commissioner Davis accepted the Thank-you letter on behalf of all law enforcement personnel who were involved in the Boston Marathon bombings and its aftermath.

Mr. Libbey is a native of Lowell, Mass., and has been teaching at IMUST over past four years. Mr. Libbey had been very involved in Lowell’s Asian community, and was the first president of Lowell’s famous Water Festival. Ms. Shi has been a Chemistry teacher and editor of a science journal at IMUST for 28 years.

Mr. Libbey and Ms. Shi got married in Baotou city in 2011. They would end their summer vacation in Lowell and travel back to China on August 28.

Commissioner Davis knew Mr. Libbey very well as he was police commissioner of Lowell before taking on the Boston job. He would leave for Washington DC on August 28. Mr. Davis is on the short list of candidates for secretary of Homeland Security according to multiple reports. Secretary Janet Napolitano made her farewell speech at National Press Club in Washington today.

Mr. and Mrs. Libbey and students of IMUST followed Boston Marathon bombings on TV closely back in April. They were very impressed that the two suspects were killed and captured within four days of the bombings. Ms. Xiuli Shi saw Commissioner Davis for the first time on China’s central TV station: CCTV. Her mother also wrote a personal Thank-you letter to Commissioner Davis, and created a beautiful Chinese calligraphy as a gift that reads the best kindness is like water, and can penetrate the hardest stone.

The following is the English translation of the Thank-you letter from IMUST students.

We, the persons signing below, offer and give to Boston Police Commissioner Mr. Edward F. Davis our strongest and sincerest deep heartfelt gratitude and “Thanks” for his tireless and bold leadership and the precise broad execution of his Police duties during and after the April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing tragedy that stole away our Chinese sister Lingzi Lu from Shengyang, Liaoning Province, China.

We will ALWAYS remember her and also the dedication of Mr. Edward F. Davis and all of the different police officers in Boston and all of the assisting Police agencies.

We shall also ALWAYS remember Mr. Edward F. Davis as a hero for our sister Lingzi Lu, for her family, for her city of Shenyang, and for all the people of China.

Thanks You to our hero Forever!

We Love You!!
