Catherine Ho Wins Inaugural Miss Asian Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Oct. 15, 2013, — The inaugural Miss Asian Las Vegas pageant was held on October 12 at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino. The event aims to provide a platform for young Asian American women to showcase their talent and beauty and help build a stronger and culturally aware Asian American community within Las Vegas.

Catherine Ho was crowned as 2013 Miss Asian Las Vegas.




After intense competition, 20-year-old Catherine Ho, contestant No. 15, took the 2013 Miss Asian Las Vegas crown. Elisa Chan, Alexandra Drechsler, Connie Tsang, Mira Chen rounded out the top five contestants. Along with the crown, Catherine Ho also received $10,000 scholarship, and the opportunity to compete for Miss Asian Global in 2014 representing Las Vegas.




The judges included actor Ransford Doherty, makeup artist John Cotter, Evan Louie, owner of Kona Ice Las Vegas, Tammy Shaw, owner of Las Vegas Woman Magazine, Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Samir Pancholi, actress Louise Wu, Gower Smith, founder of Zoom Systems, Jade Kelsall, a fashion industry veteran, Patrick Lee, co-founder of alivenotdead.com, Buachompoo “Sai” Varee, a former Miss Intercontinental Thailand, and Doug Higganbotham, General Manager of Mikimoto.

In the swimsuit contest, the judges focused on overall physical fitness and the way the contestants carried themselves. In the evening gown contest, the focuses were stage presence, elegance, poise, overall appearance, and sense of fashion and style. Contestants also answered questions from the judges.


The Miss Asian Las Vegas pageant turned out to be a very popular event in the Asian community. The co-hosts of the evening actor Hector Bustamante and channel 8 TV anchor Patranya Bhoolsuwan surely made it entertaining for everyone in the audience.

According to its website, the Miss Asian Las Vegas organization’s mission is to provide a platform to help build leadership, friendships, community involvement, etiquette, and talent in young Asian American women in Las Vegas. The Pageant will also help to promote each contestant’s unique culture, identity, passions, and personal and humanitarian goals as well as showcase contestants’ overall essence of intellect, leadership and beauty.
