Boston, Oct. 15, 2013, — You may have noticed the pink ribbons on the jerseys of NFL and MLB players lately. October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. College of American Pathologists (CAP) member pathologists, together with a team of health care professionals, donate their time and expertise to deliver same-day screening, results, and connection to follow-up care. Tufts Medical Center will host a See, Test & Treat free cancer screening for women on Oct. 26. See the poster below for registration information.

As part of the See, Test & Treat program, women receive a clinical exam, cervical and breast cancer screening, same day results, and connection to follow-up care in a one-day, single visit model, all at no cost to the women served. Follow-up care may include onsite colposcopy and cervical biopsies, additional mammography views, and breast fine needle aspirations provided by cytopathologists.
See, Test & Treat follows the most current American Cancer Society breast cancer and cervical cancer guidelines. The See, Test & Treat program |
- Provides inclusive, culturally sensitive education, outreach and care to ethnically diverse, vulnerable patients while they wait for test results often delivered by a pathologist.
- Seeks to establish a habit of preventive care and to integrate patients into a medical home.
- Introduces patients to laboratory medicine, bringing the pathologist’s expertise directly to patients in need.
- Overcomes obstacles to care by also offering interpreters, nutritious meals, medical and health care supplies, community outreach materials, transportation and childcare.
By providing free, same-day testing, results, follow-up care, and education, See, Test & Treat seeks to make a measurable impact on the communities it serves.
Recognizing women as catalysts to change within the family and community, it seeks to influence community health care and lifestyle behaviors for the better.
