Mayor Thomas M. Menino and his team today announced plans in place for a victory parade to celebrate the 2013 World Champion Boston Red Sox. The parade will begin Saturday at 10:00 AM at Fenway Park and finish in the Charles River.

“What a team. What a season. What a time to be a Red Sox fan,” Mayor Menino said. “This team embodies the perseverance and resilience of our City. We love our bearded Red Sox and on Saturday we’ll show our appreciation and celebrate a very special championship in the City of Boston. Have fun, be responsible. Saturday will be a great day in Boston.”
Beginning at Fenway Park at 10 a.m., the parade will feature approximately 24 duck boats and proceed along the following route:

Parking restrictions across the city will be heavily enforced in the vicinity of the closed off parade route streets. Fans are strongly encouraged to use public transportation and advised to expect road closures throughout the day. To accommodate the celebration, vehicular traffic will be banned along the parade route beginning at 9:00 AM until the conclusion of the parade at approximately 1:00 PM.
Temporary parking restrictions will be put into effect at several locations throughout the city and vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and/or towed. Temporary “Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special EventSaturday” regulations will be strictly enforced beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.
The Boston Public Health Commission, Neighborhood Development’s Business Response Team, and the Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing will be reaching out to businesses along the parade route to communicate public safety expectations of establishments on Saturday and also offer assistance to businesses as we prepare for visitors along the route.

The Boston Police Department will have extra officers on hand throughout the day. Underage and/or public drinking will not be tolerated. As with other security precautions in place during the World Series, backpacks will be subject to random search along the parade route. The Public Works Department will secure all street furniture in advance of the parade start and weekend work contracts in the parade route’s vicinity will be suspended. City Officials will be in communication with College and University partners. |
The City of Boston is also coordinating a location for reserved wheelchair access for parade viewing, and will have details available on that location soon.
To protect the safety of residents and guests, the Boston Police Department may further restrict vehicle parking and limit vehicular and pedestrian access.
