Acton, Mass., July 31, 2014, — In a US News ranking of best public high schools for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) earlier this year, Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in Acton made to the top ten list. Five high schools in the Silicon Valley region of California took the fourth to eighth spots in the top ten list.
Like the Silicon Valley region in California, Acton and Boxborough are located on the I-495 belt, which is home to R&D centers to many high tech companies, such as EMC, Cisco, IBM, HP, Red Hat and etc. Many employees of these high tech companies live in Acton and Boxborough.
According to wikipedia, A-B high has 9th to 12th grades, and about 2000 students. Unlike many schools on the top ten list, A-B high doesn’t require an entrance exam. Making the top ten list reflects the strong emphasis that parents and A-B High staff have placed in math and natural sciences education.
A-B high is the only public high school in this state making the top ten list in various categories. Boston Latin School, one of the oldest and most prestigious public high school in the nation, didn’t make to any top ten list this year.
