Cranston, R.I., Sept. 10, 2014, — Cranston Mayor and R.I. Governor candidate Alan Fung pulled off a ten-point victory in yesterday’s primaries. Fung won 55% votes and defeated opponent Ken Block. Mayor Fung and Democratic nominee R.I. General Treasurer Gina Raimondo will face off in the November’s general election for Governor.

Fung delivered an exiting victory speech last night, and outlined his vision for lowering taxes and creating more job opportunities for R.I. residents if elected Governor.

Last week, former Massachusetts Governor and Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has endorsed Cranston Mayor Allan Fung in the Rhode Island Republican Primary Election, which gave Fung’s campaign a big boost. Romney cites Fung’s record of reforming government in a message urging Rhode Island primary election voters to support Fung. “Allan is a proven leader who will challenge the special interests and shake up the status quo.

As Mayor of Cranston, Allan has an impressive record of results. He took over a financially-distressed city and turned it into a model of reform,” states Romney in a message that will be communicated directly to voters. “He’s restructured programs, pared back where necessary and pursued efficiencies and consolidations,” continues Romney’s praise of Fung’s accomplishments.

“I am humbled to receive such enthusiastic support from Governor Romney for my Campaign for Governor of Rhode Island,” stated Fung. “Governor Romney brought real reform and economic revitalization to Massachusetts and helped to set an example of the type success that we should strive to achieve for the people of Rhode Island. Throughout my time in public service I have supported fellow Republican candidates in local, state, and federal elections and I am extremely grateful for the outpouring of support I have received in this campaign.

“Governor Romney’s strong endorsement of Mayor Fung is a testament to Allan’s dedication to the people he serves, his leadership, and his record of real reform,” noted Fung’s spokesman, Robert Coupe. “Throughout Mayor Fung’s career in public service, he has been guided by strongly held principles and his dedication to standing up for the taxpayers. Mayor Fung is a proven fiscal conservative, who always strives to make government efficient, accountable, and transparent.”
