Medford, Mass., Feb. 23, 2016, — New England Hunan Association celebrated its 10th Anniversary Celebration at Medford City Hall in the evening of Feb. 20. Over 400 guests, including Mayor Stephanie Muccini Burke(2nd from right in the picture below), attended this festival event.
Hunan Province is a province of the People’s Republic of China. It is located in South Central China, south of the middle course of the Yangtze River, and south of Lake Dongting (hence the name Hunan, which means “south of the lake”). Hunan is sometimes called for short and officially abbreviated as “湘” after the Xiang River which runs through the province. Hunan is known as home province of many talented figures in recent Chinese history.
Guests enjoyed delicious Hunan style food and then enjoyed an evening of wonderful performances by local artists and students. Amy Wu(pictured below) performed the theme song of New England Hunan Association: Homeland. The song was writen and composed by Mr. Jicheng Gu, and won first-place award during a song-writing competition in China in 2004. Ms. Beatrice Lee and Mr. Jieheng Gu are residents of Medford. They thanked Mayor Burke for her support of this event.
