Latvian Journalists and Photographers Capture Guangdong Culture with Their Cameras

By Latvian Guangdong Chamber of Commerce

Jie Long, President of the Latvian Guangdong Chamber of Commerce, five journalists with the team leader Aiga Baikova from Latvia were recently invited to Guangdong to shoot a documentary. They were moved by the profound charm of Cantonese culture , the strength of sports, and the hospitality of Guangzhou citizens.

The first stop was the Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Museum. Mr. Jie Long, the current coach of the Latvian National Wheelchair Fencing Team and the coach of the Guangdong Province Wheelchair Fencing Team, introduced to the journalists that he donated a World Cup gold medal won by the Latvian National Wheelchair Fencing Team in Italy to the Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Museum and stored it in Mr. Long’s personal sports column in the museum. He said that this gold medal carries the wish of the people of China and Latvia for strong cooperation, shared with the Latvian journalists, and will continue to flourish.

During the filming, the Latvian journalists came to the Cantonese Opera Museum in Guangzhou Yongqingfang. Two male and female hosts tried on Cantonese Opera costumes and performed a Cantonese Opera. The host Karspars transformed into a heroic martial artist and instantly became a “check-in point” for tourists to take photos with him. There were also enthusiastic tourists who took the initiative to teach him how to pose in classic Cantonese Opera styles. Karspars said excitedly: “Everyone says that I am very suitable for wearing Cantonese Opera costumes.” He truly experienced the profoundness of Cantonese Opera art.

Then, the Latvian journalists and filming team happily came to the Guangdong Province Wheelchair Fencing Team Training Center in Panyu, Guangzhou. Two top Latvian internet celebrities interacted on the spot and couldn’t wait to put on fencing clothes to compete on the field; after the game, the hosts were still excited. They had a strong interest in this noble project and said that they would like to join the big family of this fighting ballet when they return to Latvia. The scene was moved and shocked by the spirit of the disabled athletes who persevered and never gave up!

They completed their five-day filming mission in Guangzhou and will continue to Shenzhen and Foshan to capture more exciting stories about Guangdong. Team leader Aiga said that she once again thanked President Jie Long for his help in this filming trip and looked forward to presenting a wonderful Guangdong cultural feast to European audiences!
