This camp is jointly organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China and the College of Chinese Language and Culture of Jinan University in Guangzhou to promote Chinese culture, to help overseas Chinese teenagers better understand China, and to enhance their interests and enthusiasm of learning Chinese.
The Guangzhou Camp in Southern China will begin on July 21, 2013 and end on August 6, 2013 (17 days and 16 nights). The camp will be set up in the College of Chinese Language and Culture, Jinan University in Guangzhou, which boasts excellent teachers of Chinese language and other educational resources. Campers will be divided into different classes according to their levels in Chinese language. The classes will include Chinese language, Chinese arts and crafts, music and singing, folk dance, and Chinese Wushu (martial arts). The campers will also visit scenic and historical places, exchange with local people and experience the rich culture southern China can offer (see Daily Activity below). |
In the later part of the camp, the campers will fly to the capital city of Beijing and join thousands of other campers from different locations at the Great Hall of the People for a grand gathering and celebration. Visiting Beijing afterward will be another highlight. The campers will certainly have an enjoyable, productive, and significant summer vacation from this interactive camp that mixes learning and fun for overseas Chinese teenagers.
The application Requirements:
1. Applicants have to be overseas Chinese-American teenagers between the age of 14 and 18. They have to be healthy and able to take care of themselves. They can speak and understand basic Chinese.
2. Campers will be financially responsible for all air fares (international and domestic) and visa application. The camp organizers will provide the expense for the classes, living expenses (room and food), and outings.

Registration Deadline:
The deadline is May 20, 2013 or when the limited camp openings are filled. All completed application with paid registration fee will be processed in the order when they are received. The registration fee is not refundable unless the camp is already full. The registration fee is not refundable if an applicant withdraws for personal reasons or the camp is canceled because of some unforeseeable reasons such as natural disaster, epidemics, and government-issue security concerns. |
