The New Bostonians Summit Initiative is a multi-year, city-wide process initiated by Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians (MONB) in 2006 to address the three most pressing issues to immigrants in Boston – ESOL, K-12 Education and Jobs – identified from a survey with the diverse communities. It is an inclusive approach that brings together key stakeholders from 7 sectors to help develop, agree upon and invest in a systematic process for addressing issues. The 7 sectors included representatives from Boston’s immigrant, mainstream advocacy, business, philanthropy, labor, higher education and government communities.
On-Going Summit Goals: • Focus attention and resources to improve outcomes in ESOL, k-12 education and Jobs • Foster partnerships among key stakeholders from 7 sectors • Agree on priority areas of opportunity and develop sustainable plans and structure towards collaboration and implementation • Promote more strategic investments from funders and businesses for immigrant educational and economic attainment • Highlight the critical role that immigrants play in the current and future economy. |
