Boston, March 6, 2013, –It can be intimidating navigating to further your career growth. Understanding the necessary skills to gain and resources to use can make it less so. Asian Sisters Participating in Reaching Excellence (ASPIRE) held its third ASPIRE@Work event, “How to Land Your Dream Job”, on Thursday, February 28, 2013.
|
Guided by industry experts, the ASPIRE@Work series, introduced in 2012, is a professional development workshop program catered towards Asian American women who are working professionals.
Sold out weeks before the event, participants ranged from young professionals to seasoned professionals. The intimate and interactive setting enabled participants to network and share their career goals including job hunting, switching industries, or advancing their careers. The workshop was facilitated by Salwa Nur Muhammad, program director of internships at Wellesley College Center for Work and Service, who brought with her a wealth of knowledge and advice, relating some of her own personal experiences and industry expertise. |
Salwa emphasized that there is no singular strategy to use to achieve results, and fielded Q&A throughout the workshop to best help participants with their pressing issues. She focused on how to strategically and tactfully manage relevant tools and resources, such as resumes, LinkedIn, informational interviews, and networking. During the workshop, Salwa paired participants up to practice their elevator pitches, as well as something Salwa deemed necessary for current job seekers and networking – having a “tweet pitch”.

After the event, participants said they learned a lot of great information, felt inspired, and gained more confidence towards chasing after their dream jobs.
