  • Harvard’s Jenny Liu Wins 2016 USA Miss Asia

    Boston, Dec. 28, 2016, — For the second year in a row, a contestant from Boston was crowned as the winner of USA Miss Asia pageant. The final contest of 2016 USA Miss Asia was held in Brooklyn, New York, just before the Christmas. Jenny Aizhou Liu(刘爱舟), a graduate student of Harvard University, emerged as the winner from the 10 finalists, mostly students from top Universities like Harvard, BU, BC and Columbia.

  • Winners of Asian Health Photo Contest Revealed

    Quincy, Mass., Dec. 23, 2016, — The results of the Asian Health photo contest was announced at the annual meeting of Boston Chinese Photographers’ Association (BCPA) at Harvard Pilgrim Quincy office on Saturday, Dec. 17. Over 100 BCPA members and guests attended this annual meeting in spite of snowy weather.

  • Haier Products Assist MIT Professor in Cutting-edge Research

    Cambridge, Mass., Dec. 19, 2016, — The Pew Charitable Trust recently named its annual list “37 Scientists Who Could Change the World”, among which there’s a Boston-based scholar, Omer Yilmaz. He is a young associate professor at MIT, focusing on cancer research. Prof. Yilmaz became famous for his latest research that was published on the academic journal Nature. After repeated experiments, he found why obese people are faced with higher risks of cancers: the stem cells are stimulated and a kind of protein that controls metabolism is activated.

  • Video: Duet of Pianist Yidan Guo and Violinist Shaoqing Xu at MIT

    Cambridge, Mass., Dec. 15, 2016, — Pianist Yidan Guo and Violinist Shaoqing Xu gave a wonderful performance at start of Ms. Guo’s Student Piano Recital on Saturday at MIT. The duet was a classic Chinese piece, and was well received by near 100 in the audience.

  • Mayor Walsh Issues Tips Ahead of Arctic Cold Blast

    Boston, Dec. 15, 2016 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced a set of tips and guidelines in advance of this week’s forecast of bitterly cold weather. Forecasters are predicting an Arctic plunge on Thursday night into Friday, with wind chills reaching 16 degrees below zero. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch, as wind gusts will be strongest between 6 p.m. Thursday night to 4 a.m. Friday morning, reaching up to 60 miles per hour. Low temperatures on Thursday night will be three degrees. With the wind chill, frostbite can occur within 30 minutes.

  • Breakthrough Prize to Mark 5th Anniversary in Award Ceremony on Dec. 4

    December 4, 2016 – (San Francisco) – The Breakthrough Prize and founders Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki, Yuri and Julia Milner, and Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, tonight announced the recipients of the 2017 Breakthrough Prizes, marking the organization’s fifth anniversary recognizing top achievements in Life Sciences, Fundamental Physics and Mathematics. A combined total of $25 million was awarded at the gala ceremony in Silicon Valley, hosted by Morgan Freeman. Each of the Breakthrough Prizes is worth $3 million, the largest individual monetary prize in science.

  • Dr. Walter J. Lee Joins Good Shepherd Community Care’s Board of Directors

    Boston, Dec. 12, 2016, — Good Shepherd Community Care welcomes Dr. Walter J. Lee (Brighton) as one of the newest members to its Board of Directors.

    Dr. Lee has been providing care as an Internal Medicine and Primary Care Physician since he began his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in 1981. Dr. Lee is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his graduate and undergratuate studies at Northeastern. He also ranked Major and served in the United States Army from 1975 to 1987. Dr. Lee continues to maintain faculty appointments at both Tufts and Northeastern University. His long list of professional affiliations includes the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Directors Association and he is a past President of the Chinese-American Medical Society.

    Dr. Lee brings to Good Shepherd a wealth of community engagement experience and has been providing care for Chinese patients in the Greater Boston area for 35 years. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center and sees patients at many nursing homes.

    “We are so grateful to Dr. Lee for his commitment to the community and to Good Shepherd’s mission and welcome him to our volunteer Board of Directors,” states Tim Boon, President and CEO. “Dr. Lee embodies the kind of dedication to service for others that makes Good Shepherd Community Care possible.”
