Beijing, April 8, 2014, — Professor Shi Yigong, Dean of School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University, was awarded the Gregori Aminoff Prize in Crystallography 2014 at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ Annual Meeting on March 31. He is the first scientist from China who has won the Prize since it was established in 1979.

Data Storage Pioneer Wins $1.4 Million Millennium Technology Prize
San Jose, Calif. and Helsinki, April 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — IBM today announced that researcher and IBM Fellow, Dr. Stuart Parkin, is the winner of the prestigious Millennium Technology Prize, awarded every two years by the Technology Academy Finland (TAF), an independent foundation aimed at supporting scientific research and new technologies that will benefit humanity. Natural-product-based Inhibitor to Treat Parkinson Identified by Chinese Researchers

Shanghai, March 20, 2014, –A novel natural-product-based inhibitor for the treatment of Parkinson has been identified from the endemic plant in Xishuangbanna as a result of the interdisciplinary cooperation between biology and chemistry, led by Wu Fang research group, from Shanghai Jiaotong University(SJTU) Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine, and Zhang Weidong research group, from School of Pharmacy. The findings have been published on the ACS Chemical Biology, a well-known periodical of American Chemical Society (ACS).

Gov. Patrick Joins MassChallenge to Launch 2014 Global Startup Programs
Boston, February 12, 2014 -– Governor Deval Patrick today joined Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and MassChallenge founder Akhil Nigam to announce the 2014 startup accelerator competition. MassChallenge also announced the anticipated launch of MassChallenge UK in London in December 2014. MassChallenge CEO John Harthorne joined the event via video conference from Tel Aviv to simultaneously kick off the MassChallenge Israel 2014 program.

University of Utah Biologists Reveal Ultrafast Recycling of Neurotransmitter-Filled Bubbles
Salt Lake City, Dec. 4, 2013 –- University of Utah and German biologists discovered how nerve cells recycle tiny bubbles or “vesicles” that send chemical nerve signals from one cell to the next. The process is much faster and different than two previously proposed mechanisms for recycling the bubbles.

IBM Demonstrates Quantum Phenomenon for the First Time Using a Plastic Film
