Tom Kingston, Superintendent of Schools in Belmont the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Commissioner Mitchell Chester made a grade choice in Jeff Shea.
“I am most pleased to learn that Jeffrey Shea has been selected as a semifinalist for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. Jeff was instrumental in the development of Belmont High School’s one-to-one iPad initiative through the piloting of an American Studies program supported by the Foundation for Belmont Education. I was fortunate on several occasions to visit Jeff’s classroom, to observe an outstanding teacher, and to witness the extent to which he has been able to inform a comprehensive high school effort to improve delivery of content, instill twenty-first century learning skills, and elevate the civic engagement of students,” wrote Mr. Kingston in a news release.
The 1,100 students of Belmont High School and the entire faculty and staff came to support Dr. Shea as he received the award this morning at ceremony in the school. “I’m humbled by the recognition and for the award. There are so many great teachers in the state of Massachusetts and this is just an amazing day and reception here,” said Shea.
