In that email, Mr. Gee mentioned that David Li’s review article Never to Be Forgotten – Lost Years Documents Struggles of Early Chinese Immigrants has been quoted on the back cover of DVD of the documentary film Lost Years. Director Gee also sent a picture of the DVD cover below.

    In the evening of Dec. 2, the “2012 Acton Chinese Music Night” bring splendid music and dances by the Angel Dance Company to the full-packed Acton-Boxborough Regional High School (ABRHS) auditorium. This event was presented jointly by the Acton Chinese Language School (ACLS), the Angel Dance Company, the Town of Acton Recreation Department, and the Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council.

  • Soprano Yan Lian’s Debut Concert at St. Paul’s Parish Church Draws Rave Reviews

    Malden, Mass. — Just a little over a year ago, Yan Lian was a student at South China Normal University, and Attila Dobak was studying singing in Italy. They might never have imaged that one day they would share the stage, singing a classic duet together. Famous for its world-class universities like Harvard and M.I.T., Boston is also becoming a magnet for talented young musicians and singers from around the world in recent years.

    On Saturday, November 10, Soprano Yan Lian’s Boston debut concert was held at St. Paul’s Parish Church in Malden, Mass. About 200 people packed the historical church, and were in festival mood as the holiday season was just around the corner. They enjoyed the classic Western songs as well as favorite Chinese folk songs, like the Jasmine folk song from Jiangshu province and the Dragon Boat folk song from Hubei province.

  • Love at the First Sight, BBOA’s Annual Performance Introduces Beijing Opera to New Fans in Boston

    In the evening of October 7, Boston Beijing Opera Association (BBOA) presented its annual performance at Cambridge Family YMCA Theater. About 300 people showed up and cheered and applauded loudly for the wonderful performances one after another.

  • New Bostonians Summit: Immigrant Families’ Educational and Economic Success is Boston’s Future

    The New Bostonioan Summit was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 8:00 AM at City Year’s Lavine Civic Forum. The half-day summit focused on top issues facing Boston’s immigrants. About 250 Boston’s immigrants and representatives from several sectors attended the Summit The half-day summit provided an update on the New Bostonians Agenda, a collective response to three of the biggest issues facing Boston’s immigrants: educational attainment for their children (K-12 Education); English language acquisition (ESOL); and economic success through family-sustaining jobs.

  • Boston’s Chinese Community Thanks Senator Brown for Senate’s Apology for Chinese Exclusion Act

    In the evening of October 20, 2012, about 300 Chinese People of Greater Boston and New England held an appreciation party for Senator Scott Brown at Empire Garden restaurant. They thanked Senator Brown’s contribution in passing resolution S.Res.201 – A resolution expressing the regret of the Senate for the passage of discriminatory laws against the Chinese in America, including the Chinese Exclusion Act, passed in the US Senate on October 6, 2011. Also in attendance were members of the Vietnamese, Korean, and Cambodian communities.

  • Earthquake in Maine Shook Office Buildings in Boston Area

    Boston – An office worker was about to leave office a few minutes after a meeting ended at 7:00 PM ET, when he felt the three story office building north of Boston shook for a few seconds. “I ran over to the window, and saw the trees were not moving. So, it couldn’t be the wind,” he told reporter over the phone. Electricity and Internet services were not interrupted according to the office worker. One of his coworkers also felt the earthquake on the first floor of the office building. “It was like an elephant was walking on the second floor,” she said.
