Boston – The American Taekwondo United(ATU) National Taekwondo Championships was held in Atlanta in June 2012. More than 800 contestants from all 50 states competed in this national tournament. Elizabeth Wu, a 13-year-old from Canton, Mass. won two championships in her age group by outperforming her peers. Behind the gold medals, flowers and applause, there were sweat and tears from this talented and stubborn girl. (more…)
On Saturday, July 14, at 8:30 p.m., luminaries of the classical music world and beyond—including Yo-Yo Ma, James Taylor, John Williams, Keith Lockhart, Emanuel Ax, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Peter Serkin, Andris Nelsons, and David Zinman gathered to celebrate Tanglewood’s 75th anniversary season with a gala program that also spotlighted the festivals’ three major orchestral forces—the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, and the Tanglewood Music Center orchestras, as well as the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

“You need the 入藏函(Letter to Enter Tibet)”, the tour bureau representative told me, after examining my USA passport. I couldn’t believe it. I was on my way to Tibet and was stopping by in Zhengzhou, a city in central China. “Could you double-check?”, I asked earnestly, hoping it was a mis-information on her part. “Before the train enters Tibet, there will be a checkpoint. Everybody who does not have a National ID card(身份证)or Letter to Enter Tibet will be turned back and sent onto the next train that comes back.”

Raquel’s most emotional moments seem to be when she’s sitting on an airplane. Seated comfortably (or not so comfortably, depending on the airline) in her own allotted space, this is a time when her mind is her own. It’s a time when her thoughts stir and occur, digest and contest, review and renew. It’s also a time of change, an element in life of which Raquel has quite the penchant for. Whether it was the seven year-old, toothy-grinned kid en route to Vancouver from Bangkok, about to start a new life in the west, or the starry-eyed 18 year-old teenager on her first flight to Boston to begin college, or, most recently, the ambitious but somewhat frightened “young lady” jetting across the world to Beijing – one thing remained constant. On the evening of May 8, the 6-member delegation from Nankai University headed by President Gong Ke(龚克) received a warm welcome party hosted by Boston Nankai Alumni Association at Jing Chuan Restaurant in Boston Chinatown. Nearly 60 Nankai alumni participated in the event. They cherished the rare opportunity, and listened carefully to the President Gong and Vice President Guan Naijia’s speeches, which covered a number of topics that included the construction of a new campus, overseas exchange programs for undergraduate students as well as the worldwide talents recruiting policy. The alumni also offered advice on the future development of Nankai University.

Chelmsford, Mass. – The results of YES (Youth Entrepreneurship Service) program 6.0 was announced at New England Chinese Information & Network Association (NECINA)’s annual meeting at Radisson hotel. Connect Books, a team consisted of local high-school students Stephanie Chan, Eddy Zhong and Kevin Zhang, won the first prize, and Vital Communications finished in second place.
