  • Runners Julia Kuo and Yanyi Weng To Represent BCNC at Boston Marathon 2013

    The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) has selected Emily Weng and Julia Kuo as runners representing Team BCNC for the 2013 Boston Marathon charity program. Through the John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program, BCNC was awarded two charity bibs for runners who support BCNC. Together, they set a goal to raise $16,000, with all proceeds benefiting BCNC and the vital services for immigrant children, youth and families.

    The John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program allows for local Boston non-profits to find runners for fundraising; the program provided over 1,000 runners and hopes to raise 6 million dollars for a variety of organizations.

  • David Taglieri Wins Community Award at 2012 ACDC Annual Meeting

    2012 Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC)’s annual meeting and dinner was held on the evening of Nov. 27 at Hei La Moon Restaurant in Boston Chinatown. ACDC is a community-based organization that serves the Asian American community of Greater Boston and the neighborhoods in which they live and work, with an emphasis on preserving and revitalizing Chinatown

    At last year’s ACDC annual meeting on Nov. 29, 2011, Prof. Paul Watanabe of UMass Boston led a panel discussion of the future of Boston Chinatown. This year’s annual meeting focused on homebuyer education. David Taglieri, Mortgage Development Officer at Sovereign Bank, was awarded the prestigious Community Award.

  • Boston’s Chinese Community Thanks Senator Brown for Senate’s Apology for Chinese Exclusion Act

    In the evening of October 20, 2012, about 300 Chinese People of Greater Boston and New England held an appreciation party for Senator Scott Brown at Empire Garden restaurant. They thanked Senator Brown’s contribution in passing resolution S.Res.201 – A resolution expressing the regret of the Senate for the passage of discriminatory laws against the Chinese in America, including the Chinese Exclusion Act, passed in the US Senate on October 6, 2011. Also in attendance were members of the Vietnamese, Korean, and Cambodian communities.

  • Tufts Medical Center to Provide Free Cervical and Breast Cancer Screenings to Uninsured Women on October 13

    BOSTON – For the third straight year, Tufts Medical Center will host See, Test & Treat®, a free cervical and breast cancer screening program, sponsored by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and funded through grants from the CAP Foundation. The program features same day medical tests, diagnoses and follow-up care for uninsured and underserved women ages 21 and older, all in a single visit. The program will take place on Saturday, October 13, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in the OB/GYN clinic on the second floor of Tufts Medical Center’s South Building (860 Washington Street in Boston).

  • Picture Perfect: 2012 Chinatown Main Street Festival Meets Dragon Boat Festival

    This year’s Boston Chinatown Main Street Festival falls on the same day as the Dragon Boat Festival, which is on May 5 on Chinese Lunar calendar. The weather was perfect with temperature in the low 80s and low humility. Thousands of Boston residents and tourists showed up for the festival and enjoyed an afternoon of festivities, food and shopping in Boston Chinatown.   • Michael Wong Among Volunteers of the Year at Boston Main Streets’ 16th Annual Awards Ceremony

    Boston – Mayor Thomas M. Menino, together with Department of Neighborhood Development Director Evelyn Friedman, WPLM Easy 99.1’s “Strictly Sinatra” host Ron Della Chiesa, and the Boston Latin School Wolftones presented awards at the Boston Main Streets (BMS) 16th Annual Awards Ceremony, which took place at the majestic Strand Theatre in Dorchester on May 17. Awards were presented to the 2011 Boston Main Streets Volunteers of the Year and Businesses of the Year.

  • Governor Patrick To Visit Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center on May 15

    Governor Deval Patrick will visit BCNC on Tuesday evening, May 15 in celebration of Asian American Heritage Month. BCNC will host a conversation with the Governor at the Center. He will speak with and listen to the community, fielding questions and hearing concerns in an open forum.

  • Chinatown Youth To Sit Outside T-station Protesting Proposed Fare Hike This Friday

    According to a press release by Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), at 4 PM this Friday, March 23, high school aged members of CPA’s Chinese Youth Initiative and other students in Chinatown will sit outside Tufts New England Medical Center(TNEMC) station to protest the proposed massive fare increases and service cuts by MBTA. They are hoping to raise awareness of this issue that will impact lives of many people who depend on public transportation.

    On March 14, about 50 elder residents in Chinatown protected outside Mass. Transportation Department building on Kneeland street while a meeting on the proposed fare hike was going on. They were joined by over 100 protesters from various other groups. Shi-Ang Yee, president of Chinatown Resident Association(CRA), expressed his outrage about the proposed fare hikes. “Public transportation was neglected by the government for a long time when billions of dollars was spent on the Big Dig. The problem should not be passed on to riders by raising the fare,” he said.

  • Neighbors and Community Leaders Coming Together at BCNC’s Chinese New Year Banquet and Found-raiser

    Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) had its 24th annual Chinese New Year Banquet on March 2 at Empire Garden Restaurant. Over 600 guests who live in or work at Chinatown neighborhood enjoyed a wine and dim sum reception, children’s lion dance by Gund Kwok Cubs, and traditional Chinese New Year banquet.
