    Boston, October 8, 2013, — Boston Chinatown Residents Association (CRA) holds monthly meetings on first Wednesday of each month in Josiah Quincy Elementary School in Chinatown. Two final candidates for Boston Mayor: State Representative Marty Walsh and Boston City Councilor At-Large John Connolly appeared at the Oct. 2 meeting. About 100 Chinatown residents attended this meeting, and asked the candidates questions. Terry Yin, administrative director of CRA did Cantonese interpretation for the two candidates.

  • After Third Asian American Festival, AAAB Plans More Cultural Events

    Boston, Oct. 6, 2013, — During a recent board meeting at 130 Lincoln Street in Boston Chinatown, members of Asian American Association of Boston (AAAB) reflected on the successful completion of third Asian American Festival on Sept. 7 at Quincy High School, and reviewed plans for future events. Mr. Klysler Yen also brought moon cakes and coffee to thank the hard work by meeting attendees in organizing the Asian American Festival.

  • CCBA Receives $5000 Check from Chinatown Main Street

    Boston, Sept. 30, 2013, — During last Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) bi-monthly board meeting, Chinatown Main Street (CMS) President Tony M. Yee and Executive Director Courtney Ho-Ha presented a check of $5000 to CCBA President Rick Wong and Executive Officers, and CCBA became the community partner of the Chinatown Streets cleaning program.

  • Dr. John Wong of Tufts Medical Center Receives $1 Million PCORI Award

    Boston, Oct. 3, 2013 -– John B. Wong, MD, Chief of the Division of Clinical Decision Making at Tufts Medical Center, has been approved to receive a research award of more than $1 million over three years from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to fund his work on improving comparative effectiveness research (CER) methods. The study is part of a portfolio of projects that will advance the field of patient-centered CER and provide patients with information that will help them make better-informed decisions about their care. Wong’s research proposal was among only 14% of applications selected by PCORI to receive funding.

  • Activists Protest BRA’s Tax Break to Developer, Call for Economic Justice

    Boston, September 26, 2013, –- On City Hall Plaza today, a group of activists from the Right to the City Alliance called on the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) to have greater accountability to residents and to use public resources for the public good. On the agenda tonight for the BRA board meeting was the approval of a $7.8 million tax break to Millenium Partners, the developer of the former Filene’s site in Downtown Crossing.

  • China Pearl First to Offer English Training to Staff in Chinatown

    Boston, MA, Sept. 25, 2013 –China Pearl became the first Chinese restaurant in Boston to invest in the language skills of its employees on June 5, introducing an English language program for its predominantly Chinese-speaking staff.

  • Chinatown Stands for Connolly, Celebrates August Moon

    Boston, Sept. 18, 2013, — At noon time on September 15, the main intersection of Boston Chinatown was packed with dozens of supporters of John Connolly, candidate for Boston Mayor. The streets were busy with shoppers as they were preparing for the August Moon Festival, which falls on Sept. 19 for 2013. It was also a perfect Autumn day for dinners.

  • Outrage Prevails at Boston Mayoral Candidate Housing Forum

    Boston, August 6, 2013, — More than 250 people from across the city filled the Quincy School auditorium in Chinatown as seven candidates of the “New Boston” persuasion courted votes at the Why We Can’t Wait mayoral candidate forum on housing and land issues sponsored by Right to the City VOTE and the Boston Tenant Coalition. Banners and protest signs hung on the stage with slogans like “Remain. Reclaim. Rebuild.” and “Public land for the public good.”

  • Community Marches to Remain, Reclaim, and Rebuild Boston Chinatown

    BOSTON, July 17, 2013 – About 200 Chinatown residents and their supporters marched, drummed, and sang their way through Chinatown today in a protest action called “Tour R Chinatown.” Sponsored by the Chinese Progressive Association and the Right to the City Alliance, participants called for “public land for the public good” and support for community land trusts to stabilize affordable housing in working class neighborhoods.

  • CCBA-NE Holds First-ever Art Show by Art Class Students

    Boston, July 3, 2013, — Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of New England (CCBA-NE) art class for children held an art show in the afternoon of June 29 at the meeting room of CCBA. The art show is a celebration of ending of the first-ever art class at CCBA-NE with about 40 students, their parents and CCBA-NE staff.
