    Boston, April 12, 2014, — As the City of Boston prepares for millions of visitors over the next week culminating in the 118th Boston Marathon, city officials today released detailed public safety plans for Boston’s approximately 2 miles of marathon route. Teams of leaders in government and the private sector have worked for months to develop these plans to ensure a safe and successful series of events.

  • Boston Housing Production and Main Streets Funding Get a Boost

    April 11, 2013, — Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced today that this spring, five million dollars will be made available to build housing in the City of Boston. The funds will come from the City’s Inclusionary Development Fund, and are being made available after a comprehensive review of that fund’s finances and fiscal controls.

  • Mayor Walsh Keeps Promise and Announces Formation of Ethics Committee

    Boston, April 10, 2014, — Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced today the formation of an Ethics Committee, which will be tasked with reviewing any relevant changes to the City’s Ethics Policy, implementing a new Statement of Financial Interest for all City employees, creating continuing education programs around ethics issues, and analyzing existing practices and procedures.

  • Harvard Report Examines Response to Boston Marathon Bombing Events

    Cambridge Mass., April 4, 2014, -– One year after two homemade bombs exploded along the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three, injuring dozens and traumatizing an entire city, jurisdictions both here and abroad remain on high alert to the possibility of similar unexpected, complex and potentially deadly events in their own backyard. A new White Paper co-authored by four scholars of emergency management and criminal justice at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), Law School (HLS) and Business School (HBS) draws upon the marathon bombing events to provide responders with concrete and actionable steps to help improve their own emergency management planning efforts now and in the years to come.

  • Boston to Receive $18 Million Funding from FEMA

    Boston, March 21, 2014 — This week Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced that Boston will receive $18 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, representing a 2.47% increase from last year’s funding award. The funds will be used to support ongoing and future homeland security initiatives through the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant program.
