In the evening of October 7, the Boston Beijing Opera Association (BBOA) presented its annual performance at Cambridge Family YMCA Theater. I enjoyed the entire program thoroughly along with roughly 300 people in the audience.

The mixture of “Beijing opera headwear and bikinis” is actually like “drinking coffee and eating garlic at the same time.” It not only looks strange but also feels odd. Facing queries, organizers of the international bikini contest loudly explained that they were not deliberately imitating the Beijing Opera but just trying to transmit the beauty of the East and bring the Chinese culture to the world.

During my several visits to Taiwan in recent years, what impressed me most was the people of Taiwan. Because of the advancements in economy, health and education in past decades, the people in Taiwan in general appear outwardly healthy, well-groomed and tastefully dressed, as well as possess such good qualities as politeness, law-abidance and a love of helping others.
