New York City, November 30, 2021, — The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that Oscar Tang and Agnes Hsu-Tang have pledged $125 million to fund the renovation of the Museum’s Modern Wing. This is the largest capital gift ever to The Met and follows Oscar Tang’s nearly 30 years of service and leadership as a Trustee, as well as his extraordinary generosity in endowing curatorial positions, funding new and expanded galleries, and providing exceptional gifts of art. With this gift, The Met moves forward with a re-envisioning of the presentation of modern and contemporary art within the Museum, creating 80,000 square feet of galleries and public space named the Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing.

Mabel Ping-Hua Lee (李彬华, October 7, 1896 – 1966) was a Chinese-American women’s rights activist and minister who campaigned for women’s suffrage in the United States. Later in life, Lee became a Baptist minister, working with the First Chinese Baptist Church in NYC Chinatown.

My mother passed away 10 years ago.
Mom was our family’s foundation, my emotional compass and, to that point, our eight year-old son Lleyton’s best friend. Her death was devastating to Lleyton, my wife Marian, and me.
Chinese culture dictates that, at a wake/funeral, grieving families provide visitors candy and a coin (often used to spend on something sweet) wrapped in white paper as a way to help lessen the bitterness & sadness of death – an offering which Chinese-operated funeral homes usually take care of as part of their arrangements with families.
