  • Public Citizen Applauds Fossil Free Finance Act

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) today introduced the Fossil Free Finance Act, which requires the Federal Reserve to regulate financial institutions’ contributions to the climate crisis. The impacts of climate change, along with the necessary transition to a clean energy economy, pose systemic risk to the U.S. financial system.

  • Dr. Zhenya Zhu is Remembered by MIT ERL Community

    Dr. Zhenya Zhu(October 10, 1945 – January 29, 2021), a beloved member of our ERL community for more than 30 years, recently passed away from complications during a medical procedure.  We are all deeply saddened by this unexpected news.

    Zhenya was a Research Scientist at ERL from 1991 until his retirement in 2015, and remained an active collaborator with ERL scientists as a Research Affiliate until his last days.  He was a great supporter of ERL, especially in the Lab’s interactions and collaborations in China, and he continued to serve as a liaison and ambassador for ERL even after his retirement.

    Prior to joining MIT, Zhenya served as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Acoustics at Nanjing University from 1981-1991 where he was the Leader of the Full Waveform Acoustic Logging Group.  He received his undergraduate degree from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Sichuan University, and MSc and PhD degrees in acoustics from Tongji University in Shanghai, China.

  • MA National Guard Expands School Transportation Mission to Alleviate #DriverShortage

    Boston, Sept. 17, 2021 — As part of its ongoing effort to support school-age children and their families, the Massachusetts National Guard will expand its school transportation mission to 5 additional communities. In response to requests for assistance by local government officials, the Guard will begin service in Brockton, Framingham, Holyoke, Quincy, and Woburn. This latest activation falls within Governor Baker’s Order dated Monday, September 13 which makes up to 250 personnel available for transportation assistance.

  • President Biden Commemorates the 20th Anniversary of 9-11

    On this 9-11 like every 9-11, I’m thinking about my friend Davis who I grew up with in Delaware. On this day 20 years ago, he and his family had just passed the first year without their youngest of three sons Teddy who died in a boating accident at age 15, and his eldest son Davis Jr was just six days in the new job on the 104th floor of the south tower at the World Trade Center.
