  • A Fresh Look at Gender, Feminism and Sexuality in the Heritage Film

    Pride and Prejudice (2005), as one of the famous Heritage films, tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet’s five unmarried daughters after Mr. Bingley and his friend, Mr. Darcy have moved into their neighborhood. Bingley soon falls in love with the eldest daughter, Jane Bennet, while Darcy and the second-eldest daughter Elizabeth Bennet painstakingly get together after several dramas and clashes. The film, set in early 19th century, was shot in England over a fifteen-week period. It shows England’s most imposing mansions and landscapes, such as the Peak District National Park.

    Cambridge, Mass., Jan. 24, 2016, — Despite of a snowstorm going on outside, the concert hall at Longy School of Music was packed with over 200 enthusiastic music fans for Mezzo-soprano Ying Wu’s Graduate Recital. The program features classic pieces by Ms. Ying Wu and musicians from Longy School, as well as performances by dozens students of Ms. Ying Wu’s vocal classes.

  • Singtao Daily Honored by NACA

    Cambridge, Mass., — Awards were handed out at the new year concert of North American Chorus Association (NACA). About 700 music fans attended the concert at Harvard’s Sanders Theatre. Singtao Daily, one of the largest daily Chinese newspapers in the world, was honored at the concert for its detailed reporting of the grand Yellow River Cantata concert last year.

  • Picture from Taiwan Benevolent Association Xmas Party

    Quincy, Mass., Dec. 24, 2015, — Taiwan Benevolent Association of Greater Boston’s Christmas Party was held at China Pearl restaurant in Quincy on Dec. 22. About 300 members and guests enjoyed a night of music and dance. Hung Goon, President of CCBA New England, handed out gifts in a Santa Clause custom.

  • Giant Dragon Shines at the 127th Rose Parade

    Log Angels, Jan. 1, 2016, — A giant purple dragon drew a lot of attention at today’s Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. This magnificent design(pictured above) draws inspiration from Marco Polo’s travels from Venice, Italy to China. A costumed rider portrays Marco Polo riding on the moon bridge at the front of the float. The Venetian flag, featuring St. Mark’s winged lion waves overhead.
