  • Chinatown Main Street Celebrates 20th Anniversary, Hosts Chinese New Year Cultural Village

    Boston, Feb. 20, 2015, — Chinatown Main Street (CMS) 20th Anniversary fundraising gala was recently held in Boston Chinatown. Over $30,000 donation was raised during the banquet and about 300 guests enjoyed an evening of fine dining and performances by local dance and Kung Fu groups.

  • Hainan Airlines to Start Nonstop Flights from Boston to Shanghai on June 20

    Boston, Feb. 19, 2015, — Governor Charlie Baker, the Massachusetts Port Authority and Hainan Airlines today announced an expansion of China’s only certified Skytrax® five-star airline service from Logan International Airport with Boston becoming Hainan’s first US city with service to Shanghai.

  • Chinese Company to Help Modernize Aging MBTA Fleet

    Beijing, Feb. 12, 2015, /China Daily/ — Chinese high-speed train companies are eying more contracts in overseas markets.

    “The US will be the next strategic focus for us, after successfully winning the Boston contract,” Yu Weiping, vice-president of China CNR Corp, told China Daily on Wednesday.

  • Governor Baker Declares Valentine’s Week as MBTA Shutdown on Sunday

    Boston, Feb. 13, 2015, — Today at the State House, Governor Charlie Baker announced that due to the unprecedented snowfall and historic winter conditions impacting the Commonwealth’s economy, next week shall be declared “Valentine’s Week” to boost business for local retailers, restaurants and small businesses.  Joined by Housing and Economic Development Secretary Jay Ash and local business owners, the Governor signed an official proclamation declaring  “Valentine’s Week” will be recognized statewide from February 14th-February 21st to promote patronage to stimulate the economy despite the difficult winter weather that has reduced traveling and restricted business.

  • Qualcomm Fined $975m by China’s National Development and Reform Commission

    SAN DIEGO, Feb. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Qualcomm Incorporated (QCOM) today announced that it has reached a resolution with China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) regarding the NDRC’s investigation of Qualcomm under China’s Anti-Monopoly Law (AML). The NDRC has issued an Administrative Sanction Decision finding that Qualcomm has violated the AML. Qualcomm will not pursue further legal proceedings contesting the NDRC’s findings. Qualcomm has agreed to implement a rectification plan that modifies certain of its business practices in China and that fully satisfies the requirements of the NDRC’s order. Although Qualcomm is disappointed with the results of the investigation, it is pleased that the NDRC has reviewed and approved the Company’s rectification plan.   • Blackstone’s Schwarzman on Collaboration with China

    Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 2, 2015, — Stephen Allen Schwarzman, chairman and CEO of the Blackstone Group, visited Harvard University and gave his speech at the Science Center on his company and their collaboration with China, especially the Anbang Group. The personal fortune of Mr. Schwarzman is estimated to be $10.8 billion and ranked at 122nd on the World’s Billionaires List by Forbes.

    Mr. Schwarzman graduated from Yale and don’t known much about the Harvard campus. I gave him a tour. He joked he was not smart enough to get into Harvard and he went to Yale when he was 18. He contacted Harvard Dean of Admission and yet the Dean said Yale was pretty good too. Stephen said, later on, the Dean felt regretful for not enrolling him to Harvard though. Also, he felt more excited to run a company than a school. However, he said: “never stop learning!”

  • Amazon Reports Record Sales in 4Q 2014

    SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 29, 2015– Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) today announced financial results for its fourth quarter ended December 31, 2014.

    Operating cash flow increased 25% to $6.84 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $5.47 billion for the trailing twelve months ended December 31, 2013. Free cash flow decreased to $1.95 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $2.03 billion for the trailing twelve months ended December 31, 2013.

  • IBM May Begin Largest Layoffs in History

    Boston, Jan. 24, 2014, –In his column Next Week’s Bloodbath At IBM Won’t Fix The Real Problem in forbes.com, long-time silicon valley journalist Robert X. Cringley said he learned about the Project Chrome, the largest “transformation” in IBM’s 103-year history around Christmas time. He suggested that over 26% of over 400,000 IBM employees worldwide could be notified the layoffs starting the week of January 26.
