  • Gov. Patrick Announces Major Life Sciences Investment and New Online Tools to Showcase Benefits of Investment in Communites

    GOVERNOR PATRICK ANNOUNCES MAJOR LIFE SCIENCES INVESTMENT IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

    HOLYOKE – Thursday, February 28, 2013 – Governor Deval Patrick and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) today announced more than $9 million in grants for life-sciences-related capital projects in Western Massachusetts, including $3.8 million to support the creation of a Center for Life Sciences at Holyoke Community College (HCC), and $4.54 million that will allow the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) in Holyoke to expand its capacity for life sciences-related research and data analysis. Through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, Massachusetts is investing $1 billion over 10 years in the growth of the state’s life sciences supercluster. These investments are being made under Governor Patrick’s Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative.

  • New England Chinese Professionals Coming Together for the Lunar New Year Gala as Blizzard Nemo Leaves Town

    February 10, 2013 is the New Year Day for the Lunar New Year of the snake, when Boston just began to clean up the piles of snow brought by blizzard Nemo. More than 500 Chinese professionals and guests in the New England region still converged on Newtow Marriotte hotel as scheduled, to participate in the Lunar New Year Gala and Community Enrichment Forum. Zhiyong Yang, one of the co-chairs of the event, said people’s enthusiasm melted away the ice and snow.

  • Boston Weathers Blizzard of 2013, Cleanup Continues

    Boston, Feb. 11, 2013 — Mayor Thomas M. Menino this afternoon was briefed by his snow team on continued clean-up efforts in the City of Boston. Boston Public Schools will be closed tomorrow and all Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) community centers will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for parents to bring their children. The Parking Ban and Snow Emergency remain in effect.

  • Mayor Menino Announces City Preparations for Blizzard of 2013

    Boston, Feb. 7, 2013, — Mayor Thomas M. Menino today called for the City’s Snow Team to execute plans to prepare for a major winter storm that is projected to bring blizzard-like conditions and possible hurricane-force wind gusts to Boston Friday and Saturday. The National Weather Service is advising people not to travel after noon on Friday.

  • Mayor Menino Releases 2013 Economy Report As Boston Leads Recession-Weary Cities in Rebound


    Boston, Jan. 25, 2013 -- Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced the Boston economy has made a full recovery from the Great Recession. New data released by the Boston Redevelopment Authority in its “2013 Economy Report” shows the unemployment rate in Boston has fallen steadily over the last two and a half years. The City is projecting an all-time record for employment in 2012 with 682,000 jobs. The data shows Boston has regained nearly all jobs lost between 2008 and 2010 and new investment from construction topped $3.8 billion, a 10-year high, in fiscal 2012.
