Born in Shanghai, China, James S.C. Chao has dedicated his life to shipping, trading and finance beginning with his study of navigation in China. As a young cadet, he completed his college coursework in 1949 and by the mid-1950’s had advanced with remarkable rapidity through the ranks to become one of the youngest ocean-going marine masters up to that time.

Boston, August 29 – Treasurer Steven Grossman today toured the premier electronic manufacturer Adcotron in South Boston, a recipient of a $350,000 loan made by East West Bank leveraged through the Treasury’s Small Business Banking Partnership. The company anticipates adding 10 new jobs because of the loan. A news conference was held in the company’s meeting room.

My first trip to Boston started just after New Year’s Day of 1996 in Hong Kong, still a British colony back then. I left the hotel in the morning, and grabbed a taxi on the street to go to the old Kai Tak Airport. My itinerary included stops in Tokyo and Detroit. Some 30 hours later, after delays in Detroit, I finally arrived amid a snowstorm in Logan Airport. And surprisingly, it snowed for the next three days after my arrival in Boston, which made me wondering if the snow would ever end in my hotel room on Beacon street.
