  • BCNC and CPA Hold Graduation of the Pre-Vocational Skills Training Program

    Boston, April 2, 2017, — The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and the Chinese Progressive Association celebrated the graduation of their fourth class of the Pre-Vocational Skills with ESOL for Retail Employment training program recently. Nine students graduated, with three having already begun work in their new customer service positions.

  • Boston-based Startup’s Trademark Application Opposed by Chinese Internet Giant Tencent

    It came as astonishment to Mr. Mo, founder of Dinnnerful.com and his business partners that their trademark application was opposed by Tencent, a Chinese internet tycoon. Mo couldn’t believe it as the submitted trademarks are in different language as Tencent’s and the two companies run totally different businesses.

  • USPS Celebrates Lunar New Year with Year of the Rooster Stamp

    Boston, Jan. 27, 2017, — Today is the last day of Year of Monkey on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Lunar New Year of Rooster starts tomorrow, and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has issued a stamp for this occasion.

  • Chinese-American Biomedical Association Launches Texas Chapter

    Cambridge, Mass., January 2, 2017 – Chinese-American Biomedical Association (CABA), a 501(C)(3) non-profit professional organization based in Massachusetts since 2007, today announced the launch of its first chapter outside Massachusetts. The first chapter, named CABA-Texas (or CABA-TX), will be based in Houston, Texas.

    The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is at the forefront of identifying problems and finding new solutions for existing industries and infrastructures to make a big impact around the world. On Nov. 17, eight CEE students and researchers pitched business ideas to a panel of seasoned entrepreneurs at the second Innovation@ONE competition, offering solutions to problems at many scales, from public health to physical infrastructure.

  • Boston’s New 25 MPH Default Speed Limit Effective Jan. 9, 2017

    Boston, Nov. 30, 2016, — Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced that the default speed limit on City of Boston streets will be reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph effective January 9, 2017. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Mayor, Boston City Council, Governor Baker, MassDOT and Massachusetts State Legislature this change will improve roadway safety for people walking, driving, and bicycling on city streets. State owned roadways located in the City of Boston will not be affected by this new law. Visit boston.gov/25mph to learn how to show your support and get engaged.

  • Shareco to Take 34.9% Stake in Global Eagle Entertainment

    Beijing, November 25, 2016 — On November 9, Beijing Shareco Technologies Co., Ltd. (“Shareco”, NEEQ: 837676) and Global Eagle Entertainment Inc. (“GEE”, NASDAQ: ENT) jointly announced that Shareco plans to acquire up to a 34.9% stake in GEE for approximately US$416mm, and would become GEE’s single largest shareholder post-transaction. Shareco and GEE also expect to form a China joint venture (the “China JV”), focusing on in-flight connectivity (“IFC”) and in-flight entertainment (“IFE”) services (collectively IFEC).

  • Mayor Walsh: On-street Testing of Autonomous Vehicles to Begin in Boston

    BOSTON – Mayor Martin J. Walsh, the Boston Transportation Department and the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics today announced the City of Boston will partner with nuTonomy to begin testing autonomous, or self-driving, cars in Boston by the end of 2016. nuTonomy, a leading developer of autonomous vehicles, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Boston and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation that will authorize nuTonomy to begin testing its growing fleet of self-driving cars on public roads in Boston, once their application is approved. Last month, Mayor Walsh and Governor Baker simultaneously issued Executive Orders directing the development of an on-street testing process. The City of Boston will be able to carefully monitor the effects of autonomous vehicles, and further identify how autonomous vehicles will further the safety, access and sustainability goals of Boston’s transportation plan, Go Boston 2030 through this first partnership.
