  • Six Detained for Alleged Cult Murder at McDonald’s in China

    Beijing, May 31, 2014, — Chinese police have detained six alleged doomsday cult members on suspicion of beating a young woman to death at a McDonald’s restaurant in the eastern coastal city of Zhaoyuan, state media reported Saturday.

  • The Last Week of Mao Zedong

    At five o’clock in the afternoon of September 2, 1976, Mao suffered a heart attack, far more severe than his previous two and affecting a much larger area of his heart. X rays indicated that his lung infection had worsened, and his urine output dropped to less than 300 cc a day. Mao was awake and alert throughout the crisis and asked several times whether he was in danger. His condition continued to fluctuate and his life hung in the balance.

  • Harvard Hosts Book Launch Ceremony for Macroeconomics A Chinese Perspective

    Cambridge, Mass., May 26, 2014, — “Macroeconomics(English version)” written by Prof. Li Xiaoxi has been published by CENGAGE Learning Singapore. This is the first Macroeconomics textbook written by Chinese economist issued internationally.

    In the book launch ceremony this afternoon at Harvard University, Prof. Li Xiaoxi expounds the evolution of GDP and NI as a focus in economics history by starting with “Capital in the Twenty-First Century” written by Thomas Piketty. The book launch ceremony was organized by Chinese Students and Scholars Association(CSSA) of Harvard Kennedy School(HKS). Attendees of the ceremony congratulated Prof. Li for his book and his groundbreaking research.

  • Terrorist Attack in Xinjiang, China Killed at Least 31

    Beijing, China, May 22, 2014, –At least 31 people have been killed and more than 90 injured after two vehicles ploughed into a market and explosives were thrown in China’s restive Xinjiang region, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

  • Mountains of People at Season Comic Exhibition in Shenzhen

    Shenzhen, China, May 2, 2014, — Season Comic Exhibition (Summer) 2014 opened in Shenzhen on May 2. I had looked forward to it for a long time. I have been to HK C3 and Shenzhen ACG(Animation, Comic and Game) Exhibition before, but never been to SCE (Season Comic Exhibition). Today is the opening day of SCE – Summer. I spent some time on the long queue outside the exhibition. There were mountains of people there.

  • Chinese Students Mark Youth Day

    To celebrate China’s annual Youth Day which falls on May 4, a dazzling gala featuring students from around the country was aired on CCTV on Saturday night. Some 1,500 students took part, filling the atmosphere with their energetic songs and dances, all based on the theme “Flowers of May, Our Chinese Dream”.

  • Han River Pollution Affects 300,000 People in Wuhan

  • The 17th Harvard China Forum Opens with Entertaining Speech by Kevin Rudd

    Cambridge, Mass., April 19, 2014, — The 17th Harvard China Forum(HCF) opened with a welcome ceremony in the evening of April 18 at Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. About 500 attendees packed the large ballroom to listen to speeches by former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, China Entrepreneurs Forum president Tian Yuan, and Taikang Life Insurance’s Duan Guosheng. The three-day conference is one of the largest China focused conferences in the US.
