Boston, June 23, 2016 – Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced a free immigration legal consultation event will be held on July 23, 2016 at Madison Park High School in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to uphold the preliminary injunction that continues to prevent the implementation of the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive actions on immigration, announced in November 2014.

Jill Bourne Named BPL President
Boston, May 21, 2016, — Today, the Boston Public Library (BPL) Board of Trustees voted to extend an offer of employment for President of the Boston Public Library to Jill Bourne, City Librarian for the San Jose Public Library. The decision was made following public interviews of Bourne and David Leonard, Interim President of the BPL, and deliberation amongst the Trustees during a public meeting at the Central Library in Copley Square. A third finalist candidate, Andrea Sáenz, First Deputy Commissioner for the Chicago Public Library, withdrew from the interview process for personal reasons.

Mayor Walsh, BPHC Release Health Impact Assessment Findings

Walsh today joined health officials to announce the findings of the Boston Public Health Commission’s (BPHC) health impact assessment of Boston’s Living Wage Ordinance, highlighting opportunities to strengthen the Living Wage Ordinance by increasing the living wage and expanding the pool of workers protected by the ordinance.

Walsh today announced the strategic rebranding of the Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement, formerly known as the Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians, to help encompass the evolving needs of Boston’s immigrant community. As part of a concerted effort to empower immigrant residents and recognize their contributions to our city, Mayor Walsh also launched Immigrant Information Corners at the Boston Public Library’s Central Library in Copley Square and 24 neighborhood branches to provide information about resources and services available to help advance the well-being of the city’s immigrant residents.
